Update broken file hyperlinks with the correct path!

Linking a slide object to an outside program's native file gives you easy access to Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and much more. However, you should always double-check your links prior to a presentation to catch any last minute glitches. If you get an error message (e.g., "Cannot open the specified file") when you try to open a link you created on a PowerPoint slide, chances are the source document has been moved, renamed, or deleted.

To update the link, select the object to which the link is associated in Slide or Normal view, and then press [Ctrl]K to launch the Edit Hyperlink text box. If you're using PowerPoint 97/2000, click the File button under the Browse For heading (click the Browse button next to the Link To File Or URL dropdown list in 97), locate and select your file in the resulting Link To File dialog box and then click OK twice to return to your slide. If you're using PowerPoint 2002, use the Look In dropdown list to locate and select your file and then click OK to return to your slide. Now the next time you activate your link, the correct file should open. To open your link in Slide or Normal view, right-click on the object and choose Hyperlink | Open (Open Hyperlink in PowerPoint 2002) from the resulting shortcut menu.
